The area's only Arnold Palmer Signature course, semi-private but open to visitors, with thirteen holes on the Wando River and Horlbeck Creek.
Written by Alex H., a Charleston local Updated August 2026
In short: RiverTowne is semi-private and takes public tee times, which makes Charleston's only Arnold Palmer Signature course bookable by anyone. A visitor pays $119 on a weekday, $129 on a weekend — and unusually for this area, the cart is already in that price. Thirteen holes play along the Wando River and Horlbeck Creek. It is about 32 minutes from downtown, the farthest of the Mount Pleasant courses.
Rates and course details below come from the club's own rates page, checked August 17, 2026; the drive time is measured, not estimated.
RiverTowne at a glance

- 1700 RiverTowne Country Club Drive, Mount Pleasant. Measured from King and Calhoun: 15.8 miles, about 32 minutes.
- What a visitor pays
- $119 on a weekday, $129 on a weekend, cart included. Tri-county residents with ID pay $20 less; a member’s guest pays $69.
- Carts included

- The setting
- Thirteen of the eighteen holes play along the Wando River and Horlbeck Creek, through marsh and live oaks.
- Extras
- TaylorMade Stealth rental set $75 for 18 holes. Range buckets $6, $12 and $18 — golf attire required on the range.
The rate card
| Rate | 18 holes | 9 holes |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday rack (what a visitor pays) | $119 | $64 |
| Weekend rack | $129 | $69 |
| Weekday local (tri-county ID) | $99 | $55 |
| Weekend local (tri-county ID) | $109 | $60 |
| Guest of a member | $69 | $45 |
Every rate above includes the cart, which matters when comparing against courses that quote a green fee and add $25 or more at the counter. The local rate requires tri-county residency with valid identification, so visitors pay rack. The club notes that rates are subject to change, and a Palmer course on the water in spring is exactly the sort of tee sheet that firms up early, so book ahead for an April or October weekend.
The course
RiverTowne is the only Arnold Palmer Signature design in the Charleston area, laid through marshland and live oaks north of Mount Pleasant, with thirteen of its holes running along the Wando River and Horlbeck Creek. That water is the reason to choose it over the cheaper inland courses around Summerville and Goose Creek: the setting is genuinely Lowcountry rather than a subdivision layout with a pond. Rental sets are TaylorMade Stealth at $75 for eighteen, and the range charges by the bucket at $6, $12 and $18, with golf attire required to use it.
Getting there, and how it compares
It is 15.8 miles and about 32 minutes from King and Calhoun, up Highway 17 through Mount Pleasant. That puts it among the farthest of the close-in courses: Patriots Point is 12 minutes from downtown, the Muni 11, and Wild Dunes 29. The trade for those extra minutes is a Palmer routing on tidal water at a price well under resort golf. If you are already staying in Mount Pleasant, it is the local pick; if you are downtown with one morning to spend, the closer two are easier to justify.
Mount Pleasant makes a sensible base for a golf-leaning trip — lower rates than the peninsula, free parking, and Shem Creek for dinner afterward. Our Mount Pleasant guide covers the town, and the where-to-stay guide weighs it against downtown; rates across the area are on Expedia.
After the round
A morning tee time here leaves the whole afternoon and evening; the harbor cruise and food tour both leave from downtown, 30 minutes back over the bridge. Prices and reviews are live from the booking platform.
